Moving Forward
by Tiger Yanga

Modernization has taken a grip of the music industry in today’s age. Because of the prominence of various technological changes, it has changed the way people do certain things. We depend a lot on technology these days to make our lives easier and as convenient as possible. This also is most noticeable when it comes to how people consume their music nowadays.
It’s safe to say that music has made its evolution over the years. Prior to the inception of streaming platforms such as Spotify, people had to either purchase CD albums of their favorite artists or download their favorite songs via the internet for a certain period of time. Now, thanks to the growth of various technologies, streaming has been made possible and highly accessible to a great number of people who love listening to music. What does this present though for the future of OPM? Because we understand that OPM has had its successes and failures through the years (and is on the climb again to gaining great success and higher recognition), the future of OPM is bright because of innovations in technology that can help widen the accessibility of music-loving Filipinos to OPM songs.
Coming from listening to CD albums collected and our iPods back then, the entrance and emergence of Spotify in the Philippines has changed the way we Filipinos consume music. Songs are always on demand, and that’s something that probably will never change. With Spotify, the future of OPM means that in a couple of years from now, it’s possible that all albums of OPM artists (old and new) could become entirely digitized. The growing presence of Spotify also means that it will be easier and quicker for new talents to be discovered and recognized.
